Paid Time Off for Cancer Screenings

On December 18, 2017, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law an amendment of the state Civil Service Law in relation to granting paid, excused leave to municipal or school district employees to undertake cancer screenings.  The law amends Section 159-b of the Civil Service Law. The new law becomes effective March 18, 2018.

Employees can take up to 4 hours of paid time off to undertake a screening for cancer of any kind. For a maximum of 4 hours per year.
